Makkah's 10 best food spots
Where to eat after Tahajjud, between prayers, or when you actually want a real meal - sorted by what you're hungry for.
Published 12 May 2026
You can eat very badly in Makkah for a week and never run out of options. The food courts around the Haram are full of generic chains that exist because tired pilgrims will accept whatever's closest. The actual good food is a much shorter list.
This article is that list. We've split it into the categories that come up most when people ask "where should we eat tonight" - and within each category, we've picked the place we'd send a friend to.
Best Lebanese - Sahtein
4.7 Google · 500+ reviews
The category nearly chose itself. Sahtein is the most polished Lebanese restaurant near the Haram - proper grills, mezze that holds its own against any Beirut equivalent, and fresh juices that don't taste like syrup.
Best burgers - Salt
Saudi's most-loved burger chain, and a two-minute walk from the Haram. Signature sliders, popcorn chicken, and a casual menu that delivers consistently. If you want a quick, quality burger near the Haram, this is the pick.
Honourable mention: Chef's Burger is the move if you're after smoked meats and gourmet patties - three locations across the city and a menu that goes well beyond the usual fast-food options.
Best Turkish - Mado
4.5 Google · 2,000+ reviews
If you're craving a mixed grill, this is the place. It's clean, it's a sit down, it's good food. Top it off with some baklava and ice cream if you've got the appetite. And you're spoilt for choice because there's one in Clock Tower and also Jabal Omar (our usual go to is Jabal Omar).
Best international variety - Voi Lounge
4.7 Google · 10,000+ reviews
Cuisine from 13 countries in one stylish setting. Strong for groups where everyone wants something different (kids, picky eaters, mixed dietary needs).
Best specialty coffee - Camel Step or Brew92
4.5 / 4.7 Google
Two genuinely good specialty coffee shops within minutes of the Haram. Brew92 is the pilgrim favourite for their Iced Spanish Lattes. Camel Step is the right choice for serious coffee people who want a slightly more focused menu. Either is a much better choice than any of the chain coffee outlets in the malls.
Best dessert - Half Million or Kunafe
4.4 Google
Half Million does coffee, but it also does caramel bites and chocolate pudding - perfect for the post isha cravings. Kunafe is the specialist option: traditional Levantine kunafe done well, in a city where most attempts at it are forgettable.
Best post-Fajr breakfast - Hira Cafe
4.3 Google
Most people don't think about where to eat between Fajr and the start of the day. Hira Cafe is the answer - open early, the kind of light, fresh breakfast that doesn't put you to sleep before Dhuhr. Best paired with a planned visit to the Hira Cultural District the same morning.
Best worth-the-trip dinner - Gurkan Sef
4.4 Google
A short cab ride from the Haram and worth every minute. Gurkan Sef is a Turkish steakhouse - the right pick if you want a proper dinner-out evening with a real menu.
Quick "I'm hungry" guide
