Makkah with the kids is just different. Let's be honest. So what makes it easier? A hotel that accommodates them. Properly.

There's a handful of hotels in Makkah that have dedicated kids clubs or kid-themed events to keep them entertained. If you're looking for a hotel that works for the whole family, keep on reading.

#1 - Hyatt Regency Jabal Omar

35 SAR/hr11am-8pmBest overall

The most spacious kids club in Makkah, with the widest range of activities. PlayStation, drawing tables, ball pits, a small sleeping area for the youngest children. Genuinely entertaining for the 4-to-10 range, and big enough that multiple kids of different ages don't crowd each other.

#2 - Jumeirah Jabal Omar

40 SAR/hr or 100 SAR/day1pm-9pm (10am-9pm Fridays)Ages 4-12Best value

Jumeirah is modern inside out. Its playroom reflects that (unlike some outdated options in Clock Tower) and offers a space to let the kids loose whilst in Makkah.

They also offer a full day pass for 100 SAR if you know you'll be dropping in and out throughout the day.

#3 - Swissotel Al Maqam

Included with buffetFriday & Saturday 8:30-11amBest weekend treat

Not a kids club in the traditional sense - this is a kids buffet. Cartoon decor, popcorn and candy floss stations, kid-height serving counters where children plate their own breakfast. It's unique in Makkah and the kids who experience it remember it long after the trip.

The catch: it runs on Friday and Saturday mornings only. So this is a weekend feature rather than a daily resource. But for families staying over a weekend, it turns one breakfast into the small event that makes the trip for the kids.

#4 - InterContinental Dar Al Tawhid

57.5 SAR/hr11am-7:30pmAges 4-11

Dar al Tawhid offers unparalleled proximity to the Haram. This alone makes it convenient for families. No long walks, no tired trips back after salah, no nagging "are we there yet", which you can expect if you're staying a bit further afield.

And they've also got a supervised kids center. Any kids under 5 will still need parental supervision but it's a reasonable option with drawing and games for kids aged 4-11. Albeit, its offering is not as extensive as somewhere like Hyatt Regency.

#5 - Voco Makkah

Fee applies9am-midnightBest late-night option

The latest closing time of any kids facility in Makkah - open until midnight. For families travelling in summer when the entire city shifts to a post-Isha rhythm, that matters. Games area, PlayStation, cartoons running on a loop.

The honest trade-off: Voco is genuinely far from the Haram (around 20 minutes on foot), which can make the round-trip difficult with younger kids in tow. The hotel itself is budget-friendly and the kids facility is a real asset, but the location is the limiting factor.

#6 - Fairmont Clock Tower

50 SAR/hr24/7Ages 3-6

The 24/7 hours sound impressive but the play area itself is fairly basic - meaningfully smaller and less well-equipped than the higher-ranked hotels above. The age range (3-6 only) means it doesn't work for older kids, and the hourly rate is on the higher side for what's offered.

The case for Fairmont as a family pick is really about the rest of the hotel: direct access to the Haram, the food court that solves dinner for picky eaters (see our Jabal Omar vs Clock Tower comparison), and the standard Fairmont service. The kids area is a nice-to-have rather than the reason to book.

It's also worth noting the play area is open to non-hotel guests - meaning you can use it as a paid drop-in even if you're staying somewhere else nearby.

How to choose

A short decision guide:

  • One trip, one priority - best overall facility: Hyatt Regency Jabal Omar.
  • Best value, especially for full-day childcare: Jumeirah Jabal Omar (the 100 SAR day pass).
  • Weekend stay, kids who'd love a treat: Swissotel Al Maqam (the buffet).
  • Late-evening rhythms, budget-conscious: Voco Makkah.
  • Already booked Fairmont or Dar al Tawhid - useful add-on, not the reason.

Umrah with the kids can be a memorable experience. Put some thought into how to make it most memorable for the little ones.
