There's only so much choice when it comes to a Haram-facing room. Or so we thought when we started looking into this.

The major booking platforms offer generic insights, allowing you to filter by price, star rating and review score but not whether the hotel offers a room facing Masjid al-Haram, or for the more demanding, a room with a view of the Kaaba itself.

With a market of 18 million international visitors, a more nuanced approach to booking hotels in Makkah is needed.

Given the limited circumference of hotels surrounding Masjid al-Haram, there is a selection of hotels that offer what most visitors seek, price considerations aside. Just as a premium is paid for proximity to the Haram, an additional premium applies to being able to view it from one's room.

Across the hotels tracked, there are 23 hotels which offer Haram-facing rooms, of which 11 have a view of the entire Haram, as opposed to a small sliver between buildings.

As for views of the Kaaba itself, 12 hotels offer such rooms to visitors, varying between full and partial views.

Therefore, with over 20 hotel options offering Haram views, there is more choice than one would expect.

Understanding which rooms face the Haram is one such question often posed when considering which Makkah hotel to book. Understanding how long it will take to walk to the Haram is often a close second.
