Accor to launch 5 new hotels across Makkah and Madinah

Five hotels and 4,885 keys, from Sofitel Jabal Omar this year to Novotel in 2030.

Already the leading hotel brand operator across Makkah and Madinah, Accor is cementing its position in the market once again.
5 hotels are to be launched across the two cities, creating an additional 4,885 hotel room keys.
Sofitel will be the earliest entrant to the Makkah market by the end of 2026, bringing 1,141 keys to Jabal Omar. This follows the latest addition of Rotana in December 2024 to the Jabal Omar district, adding another strong contender relative to the older stock of keys within the Clock Tower.
Mercure Shesha and Ibis Styles Misfalah will add an additional 1,879 keys between them by 2027. Whilst these will be located slightly further from Makkah's central district, it may help in resolving Makkah's 'missing middle' of hotels.
Novotel will be the fourth addition in Makkah, expected to enter the pipeline in 2030 with 850 keys.
The addition of Novotel will be its second entry into Makkah, given the brand already exists in the Thakher district with over 1,500 keys. Albeit, there is much to be found lacking in the first Novotel offering, which one would hope is resolved in the new addition.
In addition to these 4 hotels across Makkah, Madinah will see the Movenpick bringing in 1,015 keys in 2029.
The hospitality market in Makkah is one of the largest in the Middle East, given the high volume of visitors to the city. Given the 114% increase in visitation since 2022, the hospitality supply is now catching up to the rising demand.
Accor continues to supplement its leading position, offering the largest range of hotels for loyalty programme members, with 10 hotels across the city, of which six are in the Clock Tower alone.
In comparison, operators such as Marriott are somewhat behind with only five hotels across the city, of which three are within walking distance of Masjid al-Haram.
For those seeking to maximise their perks from a hotel stay in Makkah, Accor remains the best option.
Albeit, as new real estate projects come online such as Masar or Mathaba, increased competition can be expected amongst hotel brand operators to elevate their presence in one of the world's most visited cities.
