Where you should stay in Makkah
There is no single best hotel in Makkah - only the one that best matches your needs. Couples, parents, solo travellers, families.
Published 11 May 2026
The "best hotel in Makkah" question only makes sense once you know whose asking. A hotel that feels perfect for two people on their first Umrah together is the wrong hotel for a solo pilgrim trying to keep costs down - and a different hotel again from the one that works for four kids and two grandparents.
This article splits our picks into the four audiences we get asked about most: couples, parents, solo travellers, and families. Each section is short, the picks are top-of-list rather than exhaustive, and every recommendation links to its full hotel page where you can dig into the trade-offs.
For couples
A couples trip to Makkah is usually about two things: the spiritual experience itself, and creating memories with a loved one. You want short walks to the Haram, a room you'd happily come back to between prayers, and a hotel that doesn't feel like a logistics operation.

Address Jabal Omar
If you want the trip to feel like an event, the Address is the move. The standout is the Sky Musallah on the upper floors - a private prayer space looking down on the Haram that we've never seen replicated anywhere else in Makkah. Genuine memory-making territory.
Jumeirah Jabal Omar
The quietly luxurious choice. Newer than most hotels in Makkah, the rooms feel calm and considered. If you care about quality, then this is the place.
Raffles Makkah
For couples who want the prestige factor and the highest service ceiling in the city. It's got the luxury touch, and unlike others in this category, it's got direct Kaaba views. Naturally, it comes at a higher price point.
For parents
Bringing your parents on Umrah is a different brief. Accessibility to the Haram becomes the single most important variable, and views of the Kaaba from the room go from "nice to have" to "the thing they will remember about the trip."

Swissotel Makkah
If you can secure a Haram-facing room on a higher floor, this is hard to beat for parents. Direct Kaaba views from the bedroom mean they don't have to walk down to the Mataf to feel close to it - they can sit by the window between prayers and absorb it from the room. And those rooms with the Kaaba view come with a fair amount of space.
InterContinental Dar Al Tawhid
The closest hotel to the Haram, full stop. Two minutes from your room to King Fahad Gate. For parents with mobility concerns or anyone who finds the longer Jabal Omar walks tiring, the calculation is brutally simple - nothing else gets you there faster. The hotel is older than its neighbours, but for this audience the door-to-Haram distance trumps everything.
Hilton Suites Makkah
If Dar al Tawhid is out of budget but you still need close-and-bankable, the Hilton Suites is where most families land. Suite-style layouts (parents get their own space, kids or extended family elsewhere), reasonable proximity to the Haram, and consistent service quality without the Clock Tower premium.
For solo travellers
For the solo travellers out there, we know you're trying to keep things on a budget. We got you covered. We've been there and lived through Makkah's budget hotels and can confidently give you our take.

Courtyard by Marriott
The under-rated steal. Around USD 50 a night in off-peak windows, with the standard Marriott-quality consistency that experienced travellers know to expect. You just need to be willing to walk, or (our choice) pay for a 10 SAR taxi trip to the Haram. Best value pick on this list.
Voco Makkah
This is another bargain steal. Rooms are clean and modern, and it's similarly priced to Courtyard. But let's be honest, some people love it, others hate it (PS we love it). If you're willing to walk (getting a taxi to go up Ibrahim al Khalil road is a non-starter), then it's great value for money.
DoubleTree Hilton Jabal Omar
The cheapest of the "not cheap" hotels. You get genuine quality and a respectable Jabal Omar address without the Address/Jumeirah premium. The right pick for a solo traveller who wants better-than-budget without paying five-star money.
For families
Families have specific needs. And if they're met, then the Umrah trip just becomes more convenient. It's as simple as that.

Hyatt Regency Jabal Omar
Hands down, the best play area in Makkah is here. PlayStation, drawing, ball pits, and a sleeping area for the youngest. We're taking a few minutes walk from Jabal Omar to the Haram, and the in-hotel facilities mean kids stay genuinely entertained between prayers.
Swissotel Al Maqam
For weekend family stays specifically, the cartoon-themed kids buffet on Friday and Saturday mornings (8:30-11am) is genuinely something. Popcorn, candy floss, kid-height stations they serve themselves at - it's the meal your kids will talk about when you get home. Swissotel Al Maqam also has direct lift access to a side street, avoiding the Clock Tower lift chaos.
Jumeirah Jabal Omar
If you can't predict your prayer schedule and need flexibility, Jumeirah's daily kids-club pass (100 SAR for the whole day) is the best-value family option in Makkah. You've got top-standard rooms (the best in our view) coupled with play areas. This place doesn't leave you much to worry about.
Quick decision matrix
If you only have ten seconds:
- Couples wanting an event: Address Jabal Omar.
- Couples wanting calm: Jumeirah Jabal Omar.
- Couples wanting prestige: Raffles Makkah.
- Parents - view-led: Swissotel Makkah.
- Parents - distance-led: InterContinental Dar Al Tawhid.
- Parents - value: Hilton Suites.
- Solo - best value: Courtyard by Marriott.
- Solo - happy to walk: Voco Makkah.

The longer you spend in Makkah, the more obvious it becomes that the "best" hotel question is really a "best for whom" question.
