Sand Beach
24-hour play centre in the Clock Tower — keep the kids entertained while you're nearby
Sand Beach (شاطئ الرمل) is a play centre inside the Clock Tower complex, right next to the Haram. A convenient option for families with young children during your Umrah trip.
What it is
A 24/7 play centre on the 2nd floor of the Clock Tower, staffed entirely by women. The main space is large — a proper sandbox, soft play structures, and enough room for kids to run around without being on top of each other. There's a separate sleeping room for babies and toddlers who need to nap, and a quieter area where children can sit and watch cartoons.
Staff will handle nappy changes and can feed your children if you bring food and drinks with you. On arrival, each child is given a security tag — the centre won't release them to anyone without the matching tag.
Why parents use it
The location is the main draw — inside the Clock Tower, a short walk from the Haram entrance. It's open around the clock, which means it works whether you need cover for late-night Taraweeh, early Fajr, or a long stretch of prayer in between.
Our honest take
A lot of parents leave their kids at Sand Beach while they go and do Umrah. We'd be cautious about this — staff supervision can be stretched, and while the security tag system adds a layer of safety, it's not a replacement for having a parent nearby.
Where Sand Beach works best is as a drop-in play space while you're in the area. Take turns with your spouse: one of you stays with the kids while the other heads to the Haram. The children get to burn off energy in a safe, enclosed space, and you get to pray without worrying.
