At a glance
A tea-first café in the Al-Awali neighbourhood that stands out in a city dominated by coffee shops. Assam (أسَـام) opened in early 2025 and quickly became a local favourite for its specialty teas and freshly baked goods made by an in-house pastry chef.
What to order
Karak Chai — rich, spiced, and made the traditional way. This is the reason to come.
Cinnamon Rolls — one of their most popular items, baked fresh in-house.
Focaccia with Labneh & Honey — a savoury-sweet combination that works surprisingly well.
Napoli Bread — available with halloumi, labneh & za'atar, or musakhkhan filling.
Our take
If you're a tea person who's been drowning in a sea of coffee shops, Assam is your place. The space is clean, spacious, and comfortable — reviewers consistently praise the seating and calm atmosphere. It's in Al-Awali, so not walkable from the Haram, but worth the trip if you're in the area.
