Al Iskan Street Food
A street food market with local stalls selling different food and drinks
At a glance
Al Iskan is a street food market made up of stalls run by local companies selling different food and drinks — grilled meats, shawarma, fresh juices, rice dishes, and more. It's one of the few dedicated food markets in Makkah outside the Haram area.
What to expect
The stalls cover a range of local food — grilled lamb chops, chicken skewers, kofta, shawarma, fresh juices, and rice dishes like mandi and kabsa. Each stall is run by a different vendor, so there's variety.
What to order
Grilled lamb chops — charcoal-grilled right in front of you.
Shawarma — multiple vendors compete, which keeps quality decent.
Fresh juice — sugarcane, mango, mixed fruit. Grab one while you walk.
Mandi or kabsa — from the rice stalls if you want a proper sit-down meal.
Our take
Worth knowing about, but be honest about what it is: the market itself lacks activation and vibrancy. It doesn't have the energy or buzz of a lively night market — it's more a collection of food stalls in one area. The food is cheap and decent, but don't go expecting a fully curated food market experience. It's functional, not exciting.
Good to know
- Full meals for 15-25 SAR
- Bring cash
- Most vendors open from 6 PM to 3 AM
- 10 min drive from the Haram — not walkable
