How to book

  1. SAR app — Download the Saudi Arabia Railways app (available on iOS and Android). This is the easiest way to book and manage tickets
  2. Website — Book at sar.com.sa

Both classes are clean and well-maintained.

The Makkah station

The Makkah station is located at Al-Rusaifah, about 20 minutes from the Haram by car. Getting there:

  • Taxi/ride-hailing: 20-30 SAR from central Makkah, about 15-20 minutes
  • The station is modern with prayer rooms, shops, and food outlets
  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure

Tips

  • Bring your passport — you'll need it for ID checks
  • The train has prayer areas onboard
  • Luggage allowance is generous but check current limits on the SAR app
  • Wi-Fi is available onboard
  • The air conditioning is strong — bring a light layer
  • If travelling to Madinah, the Madinah station is also outside the city centre. Budget for a taxi to your hotel
